Distance control

Printable wedge gapping chart.

Stop guessing inside 120 yards. Record each wedge's carry at half, three-quarter and full swings on a card that fits your scorecard holder — free, ink-light, with blank fields for your own wedges.

Why a wedge matrix lowers scores

Most scoring shots aren't full swings, yet most golfers only know one wedge distance per club — the full one. That leaves a huge guess-zone between 40 and 110 yards, exactly where good players make their pars and birdies. A wedge matrix fills that zone in: three controlled swing lengths per wedge gives you a trusted number for almost any partial shot.

Common questions

What is a wedge matrix?+

Your carry distance for each wedge at three swing lengths — half, three-quarter and full. Together they give a reliable number for almost any shot inside 120 yards.

How do I fill it in?+

On a range, hit several controlled half, three-quarter and full swings with each wedge, average the middle results, and write the carries in. Re-check each season.

Is it really free?+

Yes — free to download and print, no login or paywall. Scorecard-sized and mostly white, so it barely touches your ink.

Why it works

Distance control you can carry.

Roughly two-thirds of the gap between a 90 and an 80 golfer comes from shots outside 100 yards — and a big slice of that is wasted approach and partial-wedge play. The strokes-gained research of Mark Broadie and on-course data from Shot Scope both point to distance control as the cheapest improvement in golf.
